May 31

We left Corsicana this morning at 8:30. Traffic wasn’t too bad and we made good time. I set the cruise control on 60 and stayed in the outside lane all the way. Averaged 12.5 mpg. - better than what I thought I would get. Got to Oklahoma City - about 255 miles - at 2:00. Dad was happy to see us. Carmen fixed a great dinner and had Dale & Danelle, and Alvin and Carmelita join us for dinner. Watched the Mavs play the Heat. Tomorrow on to Russell, Kansas.

May 27

Yesterday we finally got the new picture for the front of the trailer. It is a picture from Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah. We visted Bryce Canyon several years ago and I always thought it was a beautiful place.

Today we took Cooper and Lily home. We won't see them again until we get back. It will sure be a long time to be away from them. We'll see Julia again Sunday when we take Savanah to Jeff and Angela's.

Now just to get the yard in shape one last time and load last minute stuff. I think we have all the bills set up to be paid, prescriptions on hand for three months, paper stopped, yard care arranged and everything else taken care of. I'm sure we'll think of somethiing after we are on the road, but, Oh Well!!

Posts should begin regularly on Tuesday. Until then - Cio!!

May 25

Only a few more days until we begin our odyssey. I still need to register the truck and the trailer - must do that tomorrow or Friday because of the Memorial Day holiday. Today we loaded a bunch of kitchen gear we won't need in the house for the next few days, grocery shopped, and got dog food for Savanah. Hopefully Sean Dodson will come tomorrow to put a new decal on the front of the trailer. The original one peeled off due to too much sun. Hopefully this one will last longer.

May 9

We have been quite busy the last few weeks.  I took the trailer in right after Easter to have new tires put on.  Also, they balanced the wheels, packed the wheel bearings and checked the brakes on both the trailer and the truck.  Because of an incident a couple of years back, it was also necessary to replace the tube in the front axel on the trailer.  It seems that hitting a culvert and knocking the axel off on one side resulted in a bent tube.  This caused the tires to wear more quickly.  Since then, I have cleaned the air filter on the truck and changed the oil, oil filter and fuel filter.  All is in good shape now and we are ready mechanically to hit the road.  Last week I washed the trailer and cleaned out the underbelly.  Everything there is back in order with room to spare.  Jenna meanwhile has thoroughly cleaned inside and has gone through every cabinet and drawer purging and reorganizing.  Now we just need to load the many items on the lists we have made and hit the road.  Three weeks from tomorrow we are on our way!

Savanah, out golden retreiver,  will be going to Grapevine for the summer. Jeff and Angela have agreed to board her.  I bought a dogloo at a garage sale last week so she will have a dry place to go.  Lucy, our schnauzer,  will be making the trip with us.  Tomnorrow she goes to the vet to be "fixed."
She has really come around the the last week - better at the housetraining and less of the wild puppy play.  Hopefully her trip tomorrow won't set her back on those improvements.

Until next time, Happy Trails!!
