Today was our last day in Great Falls. We went to the bank to exchange U.S. dollars for Canadian money. The other times we were in Canada the dollar was worth $1.20 - $1.35 for each $1.00 Canadian. Today we got less that .98 cents Canadian for each U.S. dollar. Goes to show what is happening to our economy.
This afternoon we attended an orientation regarding our trip. They gave us a copy of Mileposts - a mile by mile description of the various roads leading to Alaska. It tells you everything you will see - gas stations, RV parks, museums, highway intersections, points of interest - and at what point on the road you will find it. We also got a travel-log that is Adventure Caravan's version of the milepost. It includes all the roads off the main highways that we will be taking with mile-by-mile notes on where to turn, where steep inclines or grades are located, railroad tracks that may be difficult to cross, etc. It also tells you where gas/diesel is available and the distance to the next station along with maps and notes. It will be invaluable. After the orientation they provided dinner - lasagna, salad, bread, green beans and dessert.
Tomorrow we go to Alberta Canada. There is so much to see between here and Alaska. We will actually be in Canada for the next 23 days! If you call us, be sure to use the truck phone. They warned us to directly answer only the questions asked by the border guards. NO funny stuff! We can't take potatoes into Alberta, and no fruit when we go British Columbia. Go figure!!
It has been rainy and cool again today. 54 degrees! Hope we sleep tonight. We are excited about what tomorrow brings. Until then - Happy Trails!
